# Read the identify result: surah, ayah, reciter and confidence

- URL: https://abdohoo.app/help/samee/read-identify-result
- Product: Samee (https://samee.abdohoo.app)
- Section: Identify a recitation
- Updated: 2026-10-01

> The result names the surah and ayah range with its juz and page, shows the ayahs, the reciter and how it was found, and a confidence bar. Buttons let you follow along, practise or play the reciter.

When Samee identifies a recitation, the caption under the star changes to the surah and ayahs, for example **Al-Mulk, ayahs 1 to 3**, and a result appears below with the Arabic text, the reciter and a confidence bar. The line under the caption tells you how it was found: **Matched an exact recording** or **Recognised from the words**.

## The parts of the result

### Surah and place

At the top you see the surah's English name and its meaning, its Arabic name, and a line such as **Surah 67, ayahs 1 to 3. Juz 29, page 562**. The juz and page refer to the standard 604-page Madani mushaf, so you can find the place in a printed copy. For an exact recording, Samee may add how far into the ayah your clip started, for example **, 4 s into the ayah**.

### The ayahs

Each matched ayah is shown in Arabic with its number. If you chose a translation, it appears under each ayah ([how to choose one](https://abdohoo.app/help/samee/quran-translations-languages)).

### The reciter

What you seeMeaningA name, with **matched the recording**The clip is that reciter's catalogue recording.A name, with **recognised by voice**The words placed the ayah, and the voice matches this catalogue reciter.A name, with **likely, from a partial match**Part of the clip matched that reciter's recording. Probably right, less certain.**Reciter not recognised**The voice isn't close enough to any catalogue reciter. Samee may add **The voice is closest to …**, but it doesn't guess further.**Reciter not identified**No reciter information came back for this clip.Samee only names reciters from its catalogue of 26. A local imam or a student won't be named, but the surah and ayah still are.

### Confidence

On the right, **N% confident** with a bar shows how sure Samee is of the place. A strong fingerprint match usually scores high. Matches from the words score lower, especially when only a few words were heard. If you see **These words also appear elsewhere**, the same words occur in more than one place, as with the repeated ayah of Surah Ar-Rahman or the many ayahs that open alike.

### Other possible places and what was heard

- **Other possible places** (tap to open) lists up to four other passages that also fit. Tap one to follow along from there.
- **Heard** shows the Arabic words the speech recogniser wrote down, when the match came from the words. It is a quick way to see why Samee chose a place.

## The buttons

- **Follow along from here** opens **Listen** with **Start at a chosen ayah** already set to this surah and ayah. Tap **Start listening** to follow the rest of the recitation word by word.
- **Practise this ayah** opens **Practice** with this ayah ready to hear and recite.
- **Play** plus the reciter's name plays the catalogue recording of the first ayah, so you can compare. Tap again to stop.
- **quran.com** opens the same ayah on quran.com in a new tab.

![The Listen setup panel with Start at a chosen ayah selected and 36. Yaseen, ayah 1 filled in](https://abdohoo.app/media/library/samee/web-listen-start-at-chosen-ayah.webp)Follow along from here opens Listen with the identified surah and ayah already chosen (Yaseen 36:1 here).## Recently identified

Every successful match is added to **Recently identified** below the star, newest first. Each line shows the surah and ayah, when you identified it, the reciter (if known) and **exact recording** or **from the words**. Tap a line to follow along from that ayah.

The list is kept **only in this browser**, up to the last 25 matches. It isn't sent to your account and isn't on your other devices. Tap **Clear** to empty it.

## If the result looks wrong

- Check **Other possible places**: when ayahs open alike, the right one is often there.
- Identify again for **15 seconds**, starting in the middle of the ayah rather than at a pause.
- Compare with the reciter using **Play**, or open **quran.com**.

Results from the words depend on how clearly the words were heard, so a noisy hall can give a near miss. [Tips for distance, noise and length](https://abdohoo.app/help/samee/identify-recitation-sound-or-file) usually fix it. Once you know the place, you can [follow the reciter live](https://abdohoo.app/help/samee/follow-reciter-live).

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the difference between Matched an exact recording and Recognised from the words?

Matched an exact recording means your clip is one of Samee's catalogue recordings, so the ayah and the reciter are known for certain. Recognised from the words means Samee wrote down the words it heard and found them in the Quran; the reciter is then guessed from the voice.

### Why does it say Reciter not recognised?

The surah and ayah were found from the words, but the voice isn't close enough to any of the 26 catalogue reciters. That is expected for a local imam, a student or you.

### What does These words also appear elsewhere mean?

The words heard occur in more than one place in the Quran, so the match may be one of several. Open Other possible places, or listen for longer to include more of the passage.

### Where is my history of identified recitations?

Under Recently identified on the Identify screen. It keeps your last 25 matches on this device only; Clear empties it.
